Chela Alvarado

Michael’s Mother, Affected Family Member, Advisory Board Member

In 2004, Chela became a reluctant expert on the dangers of reckless and distracted driving when her 18 year-old son, Michael, was killed in a car crash that was 100% preventable. Driven by her commitment to prevent other families from going through the lifelong pain her family feels each day over Michael’s loss, she has become a safety advocate.  Her goal is to educate and empower young people so that they make good choices behind the wheel each and every ride. Chela believes that by sharing Michael’s story, parents and teens will realize that simple decisions made in a car can change their lives forever, and this knowledge will empower them to make better decisions.

Chela enjoys spending time with her loved ones – especially her grandchildren!
