California Highway Patrol
California Highway Patrol: The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the people of California. The CHP was originally founded in 1902, became a separate department in 1947, and is now the largest state police agency in the United States.
The CHP engages the public in various traffic safety campaigns, including seatbelt and child safety seat compliance, designating a sober driver, and youth and teen programs. The CHP utilizes Impact Teen Drivers materials in high school traffic safety presentations, community events, and in conjunction with Start Smart, a driver safety education class which targets new and future licensed teenage drivers and their parents/guardians.
